Introduction

Dear IPC students,

welcome to our summer IPC project.

This project has a special topic: We want to learn about how elementary school children perceive and experience their teachers. We will do some research to get to know more about this. The easiest way is to ask and interview children. This is your main task in the project. However, this needs some preparation and we are interested in doing a comparison between German and Spanish school children. Therefore, we will follow 5 steps:

1. Preparation: We have to learn a little bit about the methodology of child research, especially how to prepare interview questions for elementary school children. We will read a few texts about this. You discuss the content in a forum with your partners in Eichstätt (or whereever in Bavaria) or Granada. You write down your results - that means what is important to remember - in a common wiki.

2. Planning: You develop questions for the interviews with the school children in another wiki. An interview should not last longer than 10 minutes - so 5 questions are way enough, 3 might be sufficient if you found good questions the children like to answer.

Please discuss the questions with your IPC mates in the forums! The topic is to find out about how children see and perceive their teachers. We want to know more about this. You are the researchers! You can test the questions with brothers, sisters, cousins, neighbors - if you have younger ones.

3. Data Collection: Each of you should find at least two children at the same age for answering the questions. Please plan the interviews: Either you take notes of the kids' answers or you use a recorder and transcribe the answers afterwards.

4. Data Interpretation: Please write the children's answers into a common wiki - everybody writes his answer to the corresponding interview question. Now you can compare and interprete the answers. Please discuss your opinions in a forum.

5. Presentation: Please present your work in a text or with powerpoint slides. You should start with a short introduction of your work (explain topic, research question), resume your methodology (what is important when you do interviews with children, and how did you do it) and finally your results (your interpretation and the international comparison).

That's it! We will have a lot of fun working together!
